There are many reasons why hiking is not like other exercise. It's fun, for starters. It's outdoors. It's social. It's free. It's accessible. But it's also a great way to multitask. There's heaps of things you can do while you're hiking - some of them fun, some of them productive, some just part of the adventure. Here are our favourites...

Gourmet lunch mountain
Scroggin is an old bushwalking treat that lasts for ages, fills you up, nourishes you, doesn’t require cooking, and rejuvenates you mid-hike. Traditionally, it includes Sultanas, Currants, Raisins, and Other Good Goodies including Nuts! We like to mix it up a bit, because we're Wild Women and that's the kinda thing we do.
foodies_camp.jpg
If you’re a foodie, it can be a big ask to head off into the wilderness and be expected to survive on “camp” food. Especially if your idea of camp food is freeze-dried ready meals. But camp food can be excellent. So, what are some ways to take camp food to the next level?

If you followed all the health advice you read on the internet, you’d never leave the house. But when we’re bombarded with health tips that feel unachievable, expensive and totally over the top, we can get overwhelmed. No matter how great they might be, if we can’t follow them, they’re useless. But there are some great, easy, free and fun ways to improve your health today – if you know where to look.

You know those people who are 'fitness people'. They say things like 'I just LOVE exercise' or 'I get cranky when I don't workout'. They can also seem unreasonably happy, which sometimes makes 'non-fitness people' annoyed. Well, they don't have some magical elixir, nor were they just born that way. If you're not here already, here's how to come over to the bright side...

This delicious recipe, gifted to us by the mother of gorgeous Wild Woman Anurag, is the perfect hiking treat. Jam-packed with nuts, seeds and good fats, it'll keep you fuller for longer, so you can smash your fitness goals and feel great while you're at it!
Easter chocolate
Ooooh Easter. One of the only times it’s considered socially acceptable to eat chocolate for breakfast… our kind of holiday. However, like any holiday centred around eating not-so-nourishing treats, the Easter weekend can leave us feeling less than our best – lethargic and so full of buttered hot cross buns we can’t move. So how do we avoid feeling flat and fatigued while still enjoying the gorgeous traditions of Easter? Here are our tips…

If you haven’t yet got a fabulous adventure planned for the Easter long weekend, fret not. It might be too late to organise hiking around Auckland or surfing in Indonesia, but it’s not too late to explore the gorgeous wilderness that’s right on your doorstep. Here are our top picks for your long weekend adventures…
Coastrek blog hero
In 2009, 40 Wild Women walked 126km from La Perouse to Palm Beach, in the first ever Sydney Coastrek ‘Event Day’. We raised about $200 for The Fred Hollows Foundation. Today, almost 4000 Coastrekkers will walk 30km or 60km from Manly to Bondi, raising $2 million to restore sight. Here's how we got from there to here.
Butter chicken curry
This is the kind of recipe you eat on day four of a hike, when refrigeration (and hence chicken) is not an option. But it doesn't taste any less delicious for it. Using fish pouches and tasty butter chicken sauce, this recipe is sure to delight - especially after a big few days on your feet!
Freycinet
So often we are drawn to the mystery of mountains miles away and trails that journey through the untouched wilderness of countries we have never visited. But here in our very own Australian backyard lie natural jewels that await our exploration...
There’s nothing like a good adventure story to inspire you to get out in nature and explore. Whether you’ve got an adventure already on the cards or you need some motivation to take the leap and make it happen, reading an adventurous book can excite and thrill you to action. These are some of our favourites.
New Year’s Eve is often a night to remember, for all the wrong reasons. The swarms of people packed in like locusts on the lawns of the harbour, waiting for a firework display that often lets you down. The inability to find a taxi, the crowded public transport services. Tired children, and even tireder parents. The hangover. But what if it didn’t need to be that way?
