About the Role
Join an exciting passionate team who work to inspire and empower women to transform their lives through shared hiking adventures for good! We’re recruiting for a full-time Finance and Operations Manager to join our team in a hands-on role at the heart of our organisation.
Reporting to the CEO, the Finance and Operations Manager will oversee and enhance operational processes, manage financial activities, and ensure adherence to regulatory and organizational policies. Daily responsibilities include handling financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting, as well as implementing efficient operational workflows. This role will play a key part in optimizing management systems and collaborating closely with team members to achieve organizational goals.
This role is for you if you are an experienced hands-on Finance Manager who thrives in a dynamic, purpose-led environment. You’ll enjoy rolling up your sleeves to manage the finance & ops functions of a fast-paced national charity hiking events organisation, while also contributing strategically to business performance. This position may involve out-of-hours events and activities. You will be notified of this beforehand where possible.
Reporting Lines
You will report to the Chief Executive Officer
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Control
- Own the full finance function (including bookkeeping)
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
- Deliver accurate monthly P&L, Balance Sheet, and cashflow reporting
- Maintain general ledger integrity and manage month-end processes
- Oversee banking, payments, and working capital management
- Liaise with external accountants to ensure legal compliance
Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Insights
- Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasts
- Prepare and maintain cashflow forecasts aligned to event cycles
- Collaborate with leadership on event performance, pricing, and margins
- Deliver financial modelling for new initiatives and strategic decisions
- Support budget holders with insights, reporting, and accountability
Reporting & Systems Ownership
- Own and optimise financial systems (e.g. Xero, Spotlight, Dext)
- Deliver clear, insightful reporting dashboards and analysis
- Improve financial processes, automation, and data integrity
- Ensure systems are scalable and fit-for-purpose
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with ATO, BAS, GST, payroll tax, and superannuation requirements
- Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, and advisors
- Maintain internal controls and financial policies
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks
People & HR Support
- Process monthly payroll and ATO compliance including STP2
- Support recruitment coordination and onboarding
- Assist with performance review cycles and HR processes
- Maintain HR policies and ensure compliance with awards and legislation
- Act as a trusted point of contact for team members on HR-related matters
Operations & Leadership Support
- Support the CEO with financial insights and decision-making
- Contribute to operational planning and continuous improvement
- Assist with cross-functional initiatives as the business grows
- General office management including facilities
- Participate in key event periods where required
About You:
- 5–10+ years’ experience in finance, accounting and/or operations roles
- Strong technical accounting and financial management capability
- Experience owning end-to-end finance, including payroll
- Proven budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling skills
- Strong systems experience and competency. (Essential: Xero & Microsoft Office 365 inc CoPilot, Planner, Loop, Power BI, MS Dynamics. Desirable: Funraisn, Stripe, Dext)
- Proficiency in operations management and a proven ability to implement effective operational systems.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate data, identify trends, and make informed business decisions.
- Expertise in finance and accounting, including bookkeeping, budgeting, and cash flow management.
- Experience with financial reporting, such as preparing financial statements and compliance documentation.
- Strong interpersonal communication and leadership capabilities.
- Prior experience in nonprofit, fitness, or event management industries highly regarded.
- Experience partnering with non-finance stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
