Mustang Tiji Festival Trek - May 2019
About the adventure
The Kingdom of Mustang preserves some of the last vestiges of traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture. With its rugged mountain terrain and rich cultural legacy this remote region, situated on the border of Nepal and Tibet, is one of the Himalaya’s finest treasures. Wedged between the Annapurna range and the Tibetan Plateau, the landscape here is striking ‑ semi‑arid desert of deep ravines, rocky cliffs and narrow valleys, flanked by high mountain passes and majestic snowy peaks. Prayer flags, simple monasteries and impressive chortens dot the unique landscape and Tibetan Buddhist culture still thrives in the whitewashed settlements and cliff‑side villages of this former Himalayan kingdom.
Open to only a few trekking groups each season this outstanding trek follows established trails through villages that once served a thriving trade route between Nepal and Tibet. A highlight is the visit to Lo Manthang to witness the famous Tiji Festival, a three day celebration consisting of colourful masked dancers and ancient Tibetan custom long forgotten in other parts of the Bhuddist Kingdoms. Join us as we savour the rich culture, spectacular scenery and outstanding trekking on offer in this isolated gem of the Himalaya.
