What is Trek Training?

Trek Training is small group hiking fitness program to prepare the body and mind for life-changing adventures. It is an exciting way to get fit in nature, offering a complete mind, body, spirit experience. Every workout is an adventure.

What session is best for me?

We offer two different Trek Training workouts - 2 hour and 3 hour - in different locations around Sydney. The 2 hour sessions are interval-training based, and the three hour workouts include endurance training. To find a session near you, check out the timetable.

How do I get started?

We offer all first timers the opportunity to experience Trek Training with our our Intro offer, which gives you 2 weeks of unlimited Trek Training for $49. You can try as many of our sessions as you'd like to see which suit you best. We want you to have a complete understanding of what is involved before you commit to our 10 packs or Unlimited memberships. We know you will LOVE IT!

Where do you train?

We train in different locations each week from Hornsby to Sutherland, from the Inner West to Northern Beaches. We currently have 15 groups training throughout Sydney each week. You can see where we train here.

How do I purchase Trek Training?

You can purchase your Trek Training here.

How do I sign into sessions?

If you've purchased your Trek Training (10 pack or membership) and you want to sign into your preferred sessions, you can either log in to your account with your username and password or download our Wild Women on Top App  to sign into sessions easily.

Do I need to do additional training?

Yes! Depending on how often you train we us, we suggest you also incorporate some cross training, resistance or yoga/pilates in to your week. If you've got a Wild Adventure booked, you also need to follow our Trip Training Requirements.

How fit do I have to be?

You don't need to be Wonder Woman but your transition to being fit for adventure will be more comfortable if you can walk at a brisk pace (4km/hour) for 90 min. When you start, you walk at a comfortable pace, with a small daypack. As you get more experienced, we encourage you to add weight to your pack slowly. You build up the weight in your pack to add resistance to your workout. And should you choose to take on a full-pack trip as one of your goals, you’ll be carrying up to 15-20kgs.

What training goals do other Wild Women have?

We encourage all Wild Women sign up to a life-changing adventure. These adventures include hiking through the Kingdom of Mustang in the Nepalese Himalayas, climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, trekking to Everest Base Camp, completing the 30km or 60km Coastrek, hiking the Jatbula Trail, summitting Cradle Mountain, hiking the GR20 across Corsica, trekking to Machu Picchu, climbing Mt Kinabalu in Borneo and so many more.

What are the benefits of membership?

Once you purchase a 10 pack or an Unlimited Contract, you join a Community of Wild Women that love to take on challenging goals and make life an adventure. You have access to all Wild Women On Top adventures, our exclusive Trek Training community on Facebook, as well as the support of our expert coaches throughout your training and preparation. You also have access to member discounts with our partners for all your gear needs.

What do I bring to training?

You don’t need to go shopping for special gear before you start – as long as you’ve got walking shoes with good tread, a small backpack to carry water, phone, keys etc, a raincoat and a torch (for night sessions), you’ll be sorted. If you have them, you can also bring hiking poles, a yoga mat or towel for stretching, a head torch, and a mug for those special sessions when we have morning tea or supper! We recommend trekking poles for those doing endurance treks and carrying heavy packs.

How does the 10 pack work?

The 10 pack gives you 10 session credits which need to be used within 15 weeks from the date of the first session you attend. It’s entirely up to you how many sessions each week you would like to attend during this period. If you find you’re attending 2 or more sessions a week, our Unlimited memberhip packages are more cost effective.

What happens if I can’t make a training session?

If you need to cancel your booking, you can do so easily using the online system or app. Make sure you do this least 24 hrs prior to the session or you will be charged.

What if I just want to do the trips but not the training?

We encourage you to join our Trek Training program to get the best preparation and support as you train for your trip goal, but we have many Lifetime Adventure Members who don't live near Sydney and can't access our programs but are prepared to train remotely and report in to our Coaches to ensure they are fit and prepared for the adventure. If you join a Wild Women On Top trip but aren't Sydney based, simply purchase our Lifetime Adventure Membership and you will recieve a digital copy of  How To Prepare For World Class Treks by Di Westaway and the opportunity to work with the trip coach to prepare your body for your Wild Adventure. If you’d like a little more support, check out Luvmyhike, our 12-week, app-based training program. This program includes weekly workouts via the Luvmyhike app geared towards your individual adventure goal, motivation to your inbox, top tips on adventure, how-to videos, expert guides and inspirational stories.

What if it’s raining, or cold?

We’re Wild Women, we train in all weather conditions! We only cancel sessions if there is an electrical storm, but your Trek Training Coach will be in touch on the day if changes need to be made to adjust the session plan to take account for wet weather. Cold and rain are the perfect opportunity to test your gear and build mental toughness.

Why do I need to commit to a Big Hairy Audacious Goal?

A key feature of our training programs is goal setting. We encourage you to commit to a training goal so you are motivated and inspired to train for your adventure. A clear goal with a definite timeframe will give you a motivation, energy and focus so that you can turn up and train even when you’re tired or unmotivated. You will get results, feel exhilarated and enjoy the benefits of being fit for adventure.
